Entrance series

Wide entrance part-way up cliff leads to two crawling passages. Both end in pitches (probably the same pitch). The right-hand one (which draughts gently out) has a short pitch, into a chamber with a wedged bolder. A gully at the edge of the chamber shortly drops into a larger shaft. Following down a futher gully leads to the main hang of the pitch, landing on a loose ledge. A traverse along the ledge leads to a short pitch to a large chamber.

Horizontal entrance leads off from balcony part-way down cliff, access to balcony is from above using handline. Handline attached to bunder and two bolts 15m rope required.
Entrance immediately splits into two stooping passages, left leads to blind pitch. The right-hand passage (which draughts gently out) has a short pitch, onto col between two shafts, the smaller shaft with a wedged bolder drops into a larger shaft. Following down a further gully leads to the main hang of the pitch, landing on a loose ledge. A traverse along the ledge leads to a short pitch to a large chamber.

Small passage leading down boulder slope under pitch leads to DigDug area. Heading toward the center you will climb around a large boulder. Behind boulder rubble cone spills onto short shaft, rubble slope, 30m shaft and blind pit.
Traverse around rubble cone at this point leads to slope and the main passage, a sandy floored orange rift heading left out of the end of the chamber.
The rift slopes gently upward, winding a little until a sharp left turn. Just before this turn is a smaller passage leading right and down which leads to Chasm Passage. The main rift continues, sloping slightly down until it makes a sharp right turn and starts to slope upward sleeply.
The rift continues gently upward, winding a little until a sharp left turn. Just before this turn is a smaller passage leading right and down which leads to Chasm Passage. The main rift continues, sloping slightly down until it makes a sharp right turn and starts to slope steeply upward becoming slippery underfoot.
Keeping in the same direction, the passage continues to slope upward, with the occasional large boulder blocking the passage to scramble up. The obvious left turn, angled slightly back in the direction you came, leads to Hiltaplenty. After this, there is a right passage leading the quick way through Liar's Bakery.
The passage continues to slope upward, traversing around a 10m deep blind pit. Immediately after the pit a small crawling passage leads off left, leading to Hiltaplenty. Continuing along the main passage a small sandy passage on the right is the quick way through to Liar's Bakery.
At the end of the rift is an large chamber with water splashing down from an aven in the far corner. The obvious continuation is through a low wide archway on the right wall into Liar's Bakery. Up the left wall of the chamber is a short freeclimb up to Lemonsnout. A bolt and a thread on either side of the opening provide the opportunity to rig a handline if desired.

The hiltiaplenty pitch can be traversed across, leading to Spanner or descended 40metres past one rebelay and one deviation. The cave in this area appears phreatic and relatively clean, however the lack of obvious source and the presence of a small amount of dirt suggest that the pitch remains dry. This drops down onto the ledge leading to Pubic Synthesis and is then followed by another 10m pitch to the Hiltiaplenty level.

Further up a muddy slope another short crawl doubles back, this time on the right. The main route forward becomes steeper and impassable immediately after this.

Hiltiaplenty

Opposite the bottom of the pitch, a drafting rift passage, leads to a step up a mud bank into a chamber with a boulder choke in the floor. There is a ?C small crawl to the left as the chamber is entered, and a ?X in the ceiling which may just be a solution pocket. To the right a passage leads to the Cornish fudge shop, named after the fine cracked mud floor. Over the boulder choke two passages go off. The left passage leads to a couple of avens ?X ?X, a little grotto and awkward passage, with a rift in the floor and a number of windows into a parallel passage. The right hand passage goes up an ascending rift up to a cross rift. At this junction there is a possible passage ?C going that would need climbing/bolting to. To the left the cross rift leads to a slope up ?B, whilst the right goes dead straight for 100m, where a small crawl straight on or a passage to the left both lead to two ends of a complicated multilevel chamber. Bearing right loops around down a mud slope/climb to the lower level of the chamber.

Back at the bottom of the hiltiaplenty pitch, turning right leads quickly to a large sloping chamber, with a large aven above ?X. Turning left in the chamber leads up a large passage, with a possible climb up at the end ?X. Turning right in the chamber leads down a very dubious approach to the below hiltiaplenty pitch, this is steep and full of big loose rocks and is not recomended. Straight across the chamber leads down a sandy passage, which can also be traversed over with a climb down a tube. At the bottom of this passage is a three meter drop to a perpendicular passage that can be avoided with a short narrow climb in the floor. The right leads to where the below hiltiaplenty pitch was rigged, the left leads immediatly to a pitch that can be traversed over where a short passage leads to a short pitch. The pitches drop to oposite ends of a narrow low passage which connects the bottoms of both pitches, halfway along this passage a ramp up a chamber leabs to a short climb that leads to the bottom of a breakdown filled shaft. The breakdown can be climbed past up a chimney and emerges in a clean washed aven with many fresh strike marks that appears to be directly below natural highs.

Below hiltiaplenty

Rigging guide
The pitch lands in a chamber. From the a chamber a passage leads up, passing a rift ?C on the right where some rocks would need moving to making progress. A climb up leads to a passage that splits, with both routes leading to a small chamber. The only way on that does not quickly become too tight or choked, is a climb up to, where some protection would be required ?C.

Back in the main chamber near where the rope lands a crawl up a mud floored passage slopes up ?B.

Descending the main chamber (which should be protected with the pitch rope), leads to where a opit in the floor can be descended, to a gnarly active stream way descending down ?C. From the lower part of the chamber a crawl to the left quickly chokes and a passage goes up. This has a rift going of to the left, which probably needs a little rigging ?B. At the top of the passage, there is a pitch down, which looks blind ?C and a passage continues over the pitch heading steeply upwards ?X.

Cornish fudge shop

The cracked mud floored passage starts low before opening up however it does not go, so the passage should not be entered.

<underground_description>Entrances A and B quickly unite. Phreatic passage leads downslope past a pitch (QM A) to a crossroads. Straight on is choked; right leads to a chamber and another choke, possibly passable (QM A). Left is 25m of varying-size phreatic to a T-junction. Right leads to two choked passages, both probably diggable (left QM A, right QM B) -- these draft, although the notes don't say whether the draft is in or out. Left at the T-junction leads upslope via a 2m climb to a chamber with an aven, then another chamber at the foot of an 18m surface shaft (entrance C). From this chamber a small passage leads off to the left (QM C).</underground_description>

Got underground late (3.40pm!) due to moving the tent back out of the bivi cave cos it is wetter there, and much effort at lighting Olly's now broken stove. Down to Spent Ledge where Olly rigged down to last year's end. Rigged the next little pitch on a wide Y-hand to a 1970's spit (in hindsight a new bolt further along will be significantly better). The water drops down lower in the rift, but the way on is up a metre to a traverse along ledges to a wedged in boulder which rocks back and forth if you stand on it ... Dropped down a few metres on a 1970's spit to a ledge. Olly put in a back up bolt and moved over the pitch. Used the 1970's hang bolt as a deviation to get to a ledge a few metres down (this isn't in the best place). Had a nice Y-hang here, and Olly abseiled down for ages. Pitch wasn't as free hanging as we expected - it got a deviation on a natural, and needs rigging better as currently you need to fend off with your feet near the bottom. Then a rebelay for a few metres down to the Balcony. The Greene King pennant was still there, though a bit damaged with age. Olly put in a bolt and we abbed to the floor. Initially we were a bit overwhelmed by all the big boulders - some in the floor, some wedged above as rock bridges. The way on is up the boulder pile, under a few rock bridges and back down the other side (our [?hanging?] Boulder Pitch) which now has 2 bolts, and the rigging starts higher. Followed the passage down over and under boulders and heard water levels rise significantly (apparently a hailstorm on the surface). Decided it was probably an evening storm and so water levels would hopefuly drop after a while. Figured the pitches might well be quite wet, so decided to survey lots at this level so the water could decrease, and pospone surveying the pitch. Continued down the passage to a four way junction. Left appears to be the 1979 route to the stream cuts down and disappears, but you can traverse on ledges above to reach a 17m pitch (which looks nice but we didn't descend). Straight on must be the 1978 route and is initially dry muddy passage to a junction at a pitch (which again we didn't drop). Right is an inlet from above. Surveyed all this, which took a while, back up to the hang bolt from the Balcony. Water levels stil high-ish, but nowhere near as bad as I expected, and the worst bit was the Tap Room. Olly [?having?] carried the drill up the bottom half and me the top half of the cave. Wished we had more water bottles with us - had left one in Strangeways and one in Boulder Chamber, could have done with water lower down. Just made it out with 30 mins to spare before our 8am callout!
