<h1>Expo 2005: Surface work hitlist</h1>
<p>This is essentially a QM list for surface work, combined with a
documentation to-do list, intended to record things that need exploring or
surveying outside our main target caves. This list is maintained by Dave, as
kataster administrator.</p>

<h3>Stuff near 204</h3>
<ul>
<li><b>Noted but undescended caves:</b></li>
<ul>
<li><a href="/1623/2002-X09/2002-X09.html">2002-X09</a>, <a
href="/1623/2002-X09B/2002-X09B.html">2002-X09B</a>, <a
href="/1623/2002-10/2002-10.html">2002-10</a>, <a
href="/1623/2005-08/2005-08.html">2002-X11</a> through <a
href="/1623/2002-X18/2002-X18.html">2002-X18</a>: Entrances noted and
GPSsed by Dunks in 2002, on a single long circular prospecting walk round the
back of the Nieder Augst-Eck, and promptly forgotten about. Most of these are
untagged, and have been given provisional numbers (indicated by the X
prefix).</li>
<li>Not to be outdone, Earl and Becka went for a walk with Martin's GPS in 2003
and found eight more holes which promptly got forgotten about as well. At least
they explored most of these at the time but <a
href="/1623/2003-X12/2003-X12.html">2003-X12</a> and <a
href="/1623/2003-X17/2003-X17.html">2003-X17</a> are undescended.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2004-10/index.html">2004-10</a>: discovered by
Becka and Nial, lying just north of <a
href="/1623/251/251.html">251</a> (In Your Face).</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2004-13/index.html">2004-13</a>: near 161G and
161H. Almost certainly goes into Iceland if it goes anywhere, but worth
checking out.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2004-16/index.html">2004-16</a>, <a
href="/1623/2004-17/index.html">17</a>, <a
href="/1623/2004-18/index.html">18</a>: Martin + Frank's holes north
of 204C. Need checking out to see if they go anywhere; might yield a new 204
entrance!</li>
<li>2002-02 aka <a href="/1623/234/234.html">234B</a>: has a voice and
light connection to an aven in 234, but would be worth descending to tie in the
loop.</li>
<li>Untagged cluster of strongly draughting entrances located by Becka and Nial
near <a href="/1623/251/251.html">251</a> (GPS coordinates
in <a href="../2004/logbook.html#lb07-21-A">2004 logbook</a>) - some may
require hammering and/or capping?</li>
</ul>
<li><b>Other leads:</b></li>
<ul>
<li><a href="/1623/239/239.html">239</a> (Rock'n'Roll H&ouml;hle):
Continuing passage at the other side of Mersonified pitch-head, trending
in direction of 204 (although not very deep); may require a bolt traverse to
access.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2004-19/index.html">2004-19</a> (Kindergarten):
pitch in floor of main passage.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2002-07/2002-07.html">2002-07</a> (Quarries A-C):
squeeze down past snow plug at -34m, just 9m above Crowning Glory.</li>
</ul>
<li><b>Digs:</b></li>
<ul>
<li><a href="/1623/2000-08/2000-08.htm">2000-08</a>: Dig poised above
Merry Fucking Christmas. If I can work out a sensible and safe rig to get into
it, then I might have a go at it with a crowbar and a shovel.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2004-21/index.html">2004-21</a>: Dig out the
mysterious passage going down to the right (which is sometimes snow-choked but
has never been descended). Danger of attack by flying saucers. (Needs tagging,
as well.)</li>
<li><a href="/1623/245/245.html">245</a>: prod terminal
boulder choke, which drafts strongly and heads towards the far extremity of
Rhino Rift in 204 (although it's a bit shallow and may well just hit the
surface instead).</li>
</ul>
<li><b>Surveying, tagging and documentation jobs:</b>
<ul>
<li><a href="/1623/2001-03/2001-03.html">2001-03</a>: this has
apparently been explored but there are no records of whether it goes or not;
and it is promisingly placed above the Colonnade in 204.</li>
<li>The Quarries (<a href="/1623/2002-07/2002-07.html">2002-07</a>, <a
href="/1623/2002-08/2002-08.html">2002-08</a> and <a
href="/1623/2002-XX/2002-XX.html">2002-XX</a>): revisit in
consultation with Frank and determine if they go anywhere, and if there is a
link to 204c (as has been suggested).</li>
<li>Huge bag of caves, 2003-X11 to 2003-X18, GPSsed by Earl + Becka in 2003 and
promptly forgotten about; need re-finding, marking, and surveying where
appropriate (they vary from the done to the completely undescended).</p>
<li>161G + H: currently numbered as 2003-06 and 2004-12 respectively; to be
tagged with new numbers.</li>
<li>2002-01, 2003-02, 2003-03, 2003-05, 2003-09, 2003-1, 2004-11: to be retagged with new
kataster numbers when these have been allocated.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2003-07/2003-07.html">2003-07</a>: it is not clear
if this cave really exists! A walk over that way to determine which tags were
actually placed where is in order.</li>
<li>The rest of Earl + Becka's 2003-Xnn caves, at least two of which probably
need a proper survey, and all of them need to be re-found and re-marked.</li>
</ul>
</ul>

<h3>Stuff near 76</h3>
<ul>
<li>Jenny and Olly did a day's surface prospecting walking from the 76 bivi to
the local high point roughly to the West. Unfortunately the GPS randomly reset
and lost the coordinates so caves 2004-05 to 09 need relocating and tagging.
Also might be worthwhile getting more pics/GPS coordinates of 174, 175,
and 176 which aren't far away.
</li>
<li><a href="/1623/2004-03.html">2004-03</a> is on
the route from top camp and needs tagging, GPSing and
a close-up photo taking.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/104/104.html">104</a> needs a tag before the last traces
of paint weather away. There's
even a spit (though it could be a bit rusty). It's probably close enough to be
worth a surface survey to.</li>
<li><a
href="/1623/108/108.html">108</a> needs a tag
(it already has a spit).
</li>
<li><a href="/1623/1999-OB-02/1999-OB-02.html">99OB02</a> needs
relocating and GPSing. It already has a tag.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/1999-OB-01/1999-OB-01.html">99OB01</a> needs
relocating, GPSing, and tagging.</li>
<li>Find the cave with a rock next to it with <i>177?</i> painted on it
in blue paint. Retrieve rock to throw at Waddington!</li>
<li>Possibly look for <a href="/1623/177.htm">Tantalusschacht (177)</a>
(if you believe it really exists) and also <a
href="/1623/178.htm">178</a> and <a
href="/1623/179.htm">179</a>. But they're all unmarked, and several
past attempts to locate 179 have failed.
</li>
</ul>
<hr />
<h3>Other areas</h3>
<ul>
<li>Three caves in the vicinity of Eish&ouml;hle &ndash; are currently tagged
with incorrect Kataster numbers and <a href="../2004/kataster2004.html">need
retagging</a>.</li>
<li>Sort out confusion over <a href="/1623/157.htm">157</a>, <a
href="/1623/bogen.html">Bogenh&ouml;hle</a> and other caves near laser
point 0/5 (can easily be done en route to 204.)</li>
<li>Retag 2000-AA-01 (middle
plateau 200m north of Top Camp) with proper kataster number when this has been
allocated.</li>
<li>Survey <a href="/1623/171/171.html">171</a>, which is near 2000-AA-01,
and is apparently quite long (&gt;100m) although not very deep.</li>
<li>Wander round Kratzer valley with a tagging kit and a decent modern GPS, in
the hope of relocating <a href="/1623/71.htm">71</a>
(Fledermaush&ouml;hle), which is quite a substantial cave (347m long, 95m deep
&ndash; by far the biggest of the Kratzer caves). It was surveyed in some
detail way back in 1976 but no surface survey was made so we don't know where
it is.</li>
<li><a href="/1623/1996_05.html">1996-05</a>. This is some way to the
west of 204, in the large empty gap of northern plateau north of the usual
limit of prospecting from old Top Camp and west of the SMK ridge, and is a
substantial undescended shaft; time could profitably be spent looking for holes
in the surrounding area, which is largely virgin territory. <i>(This is
actually closer to 76, but having been there I suspect it's probably
best approached along the described route from near topcamp - Olly)</i></li>
