2004 Expo: Things to do
This is intended as a list, not of major leads, but of the sort of mildly tedious surveying and documentation tasks that always need doing and nobody wants to do. So, it would be a good idea if at some point on Expo 2004, someone did the following:
Redo surface survey to, and maybe do underground survey of, 2003-03. 30m
rope, five hangers and a rope protector will suffice for the rigging. Watch out
for the entrance squeeze on the way out, which is a bastard for big people like
me (Dave). Frank, Julian, Becka and myself know where it is.
Retag Arachnowrapper from 2003-06 to 161G.
Retag Hauchhöhle. (There is a mess that needs sorting out on the documentation front, in which two caves have been assigned the number 235.)
Push 2003-02 to a conclusion (warning: **big** pitch!). Tony and Brian
know where it is.
Possibly do a surface survey to 2003-01 and 2003-02.
Ditto 2003-05 (continue from above).
Prod the boulder choke in 2003-09 with a crowbar in the hope of a
connection to On a Mission area in 204.
Complete exploration of 2003-10 (near stone bridge): there is one main QM
left.
The following we have locations for but not underground survey data. They
may well need to be explored, and surveyed, properly:
2001-02, which is very near the stone bridge, and all of 18m horizontally
and 29m vertically from Umshitshimbo in the Near End series of 204. According
to the 2001 logbook it is quite short and is choked, but it may still need
surveying.
2001-03, near the above; this is longer, and the logbook is
unclear as to whether it was actually fully explored. It's close to the
Colonnade (off Treeumphant) in 204, which apparently has several avens.
2002-02, which is near Hauchhöhle.
2003-07, which is very close to the end of Where the Wind Blows in 161.
In 204: Repeat the death-defying climb to connect the south end of Rhino
Rift to Insignificant Chamber, and survey it, thus closing a rather substantial
loop.
In 204: Have a good stare at QMs in the Suspended Solution area near 204d
(in the hope of connecting to Helter Skelter).
In 204: (Long shot) Keep on down Merry-Go-Round (Brian's pitch series
from 2002), which is highly likely to drop into an aven in Gaffered (7m
horizontal distance, 61m down). May not be worth the effort, I'm not sure.
