Expedition Objectives
Exploration
- Continue exploration of Tunnockshacht
- At the end of last expo we put more conservation tape in Tunnock's than I think is used anywhere else in Austria! It's a very nice cave, and is unusually horizontal - so there's easy caving to be had for once! It also looks as if it's going to be deep, as we've found pitches on the same scale as Gaffered in 204.
- Suggested exploration goals
- Expansion: Do all the like bajillion QMAs and pitches.
- Loop closure: connect 06-41C to 06-23A
- Loop closure: connect 07-48C or 06-33C to 06-37B, 06-38C, or 06-39C
- Loop closure: connect 07-32B to 07-31B
- Connection to 204: it seems likely that pitches in the southern end of Tunnocks could drop into a continuation of the 'Wares level in 204. There should only be about 75m to drop to that level. Duncan Collis 06:32, 30 May 2008 (BST)
- Explore Hauchhöhle
- Hopfully we can find a bypass to razordance, allowing far easier access to the horizontal section beyond which may well connect to KH (we can dream...) Hauchhohle itself may also link 204 and KH - but either way it's an important cave that needs some love.
- Based on keenness: return to KH
- If this happens we will look for a connection to 204 from the KH side. This may involve underground camping [I think underground camping is unlikely to be necessary Duncan Collis 13:04, 8 June 2008 (BST)], and won't happen unless enough people express an interest in a return to KH. See Expo 2008/KH Planning.
Research
- Aaron will continue his cave climatology study he started last expo. It is an investigation into cave microclimates, and involves the use of some novel scientific instruments.
- This year we will produce a documentary on expo, and cave exploration in general. Any camera that can do video will be useful for this so please bring cameras to expo if you can - this has potential to be a very interesting film.
- I think purchasing 2-3 helmet mounted video cameras (GBP100 each) like http://www.goprocamera.com/index4.htm would be a good use of the RGS money. -Aaron 13:31, 24 May 2008 (BST)
Things to do on expo
- Please set the date and time correctly on your digital cameras. The EXIF timestamp on the image file can then be used if the image has anything useful for science (eg if there's condensation we know what time of day it was) or exploration (we can match up pictures to trips in the logbook for the website). This only works if everyone does it.
- When checking QMs, figure out which QM you ticked off at some point before writing it in the logbook, and then record the QM number, with an explanation of what happened (too tight, got bigger, etc). It's rather difficult to delete "that lead over by the nice ceiling thing" from the survey.
- Throw the expo leader in the river.
- Leave dirty washing up around.
Things not to do on expo
- Please don't leave dirty washing up around.
- Streaking at the grike
