The 161c entrance was originally explored by the
French Groupe
Spéléologique de Clerval - Baume les Dames under the
name VSS2 in 1988 and 1989, reaching -285m. They abandoned exploration
as it was apparent that it was going to connect into 161, though in fact,
that connection at depth wasn't made until 1995 and entailed the discovery
of a large amount of very impressive passage ! CUCC's explorations pushed
deeper and led to the huge sub-horizontal series off Triassic Park. Since
easier ways into those passages were found further down the mountainside,
this entrance has not been used.

B8 (1623/197) is the most obvious of a number of entrances explored in 1976,

Along the same scarp right on the right hand edge of the picture is the

necessary because, as the name "Lost Rucksack Hole" suggests, he had dropped
his rucksack containing the rope into the shaft in a careless moment.

This sort of entrance is typical of prospecting on the plateau. Also
typical is the fact that no-one could find the shaft again in 1993. It was
given number CUCC93-01, and re-found in 1995, but
no gear was to hand. Thus it remained unexplored beyond this surface shaft
until 1998, when it was finally bottomed in three trips, numbered 1623/200,
and very definitely fixed by GPS and surface survey and marked with a metal
tag. We won't be losing that one again, at least !

short drop ending in a diminutive stream from which the way on is obscure.
Seven years after this photo was taken, cavers reached this point again from
Bananahöhle (1623/152) which came in down a pitch to the right of this
picture.

Shortly beyond Egglgrube, the 201 path climbs into an area of karren on
a wooded slope south of Vorderer Schwarzmosskogel. This is looking back
towards the Bräuning Wall from a short way along, nearing the laser
point marking cave 1623/28. (Also the junction with the route which leads to
the upper entrances of the Stellerweg system and the shoulder of the
Vorderer Schwarzmooskogel).
