<p>The massive, usually snow-choked entrance of 1623/189, looking north
during a surface survey in 1996. Note that the surface survey line does not
need to take a physically traversable route ! The normal way past this hole
on the way to the middle plateau is a climb up and traverse to its right.
The joint forming the left wall in this picture is the same one on which
<a href="../../164.htm">164</a> is formed. Beyond 189 and to the left is
<a href="../../171/171.html">171</a>, whilst along a fault scarp to the right
lie <a href="../../190/190.html">190</a> and <a href="../../197.htm">B8</a> (197).
